Seven young sportswriters from national and regional newspapers are to compete for the first Ian Wooldrige Trophy – introduced by the Sports Journalists Association to commemorate legenday Daily Mail columnist who died last year.
The prize will go to a journalist aged 26 or under whose work in the past year has shown versatility and a high standard of writing.
It will be presented by of Wooldriges’s widow, Sarah, at the SJA awards dinner at The Brewery in the City of London on 17 March.
Twenty awards for writers, photographers and cartoonists will be presented on awards night.
