Wolverhampton’s Express & Star ‘to introduce paywall’

By admin

Wolverhampton’s Express & Star, the biggest selling regional newspaper in the UK, is planning to put some of its web content behind a paywall later in the spring.

The Midland News Association-owned paper is set to launch a ‘premium’website, according to a report this afternoon.

The paper intends to publish ‘edited highlights’of each day’s news for free, with full content only made available to paying customers.

Deputy editor Keith Harrison told Journalism.co.uk the new site would be sold to readers as part of ‘bundled print-and-online subscription”.

He said:

“We’re not trying to sell this as a standalone, in competition to the hard copy paper. It’s a package to add value and help the overall circulation.”
