Metro has revealed that 211,000 people downloaded the six tablet and iPhone editions produced between Christmas Day and New Year's Day and that more than 50,000 Metro apps were downloaded in the same period.
Linda Grant managing director at Metro, said: “We enjoyed record Christmas traffic, with 115,000 UK unique viewers and 70,000 UK mobile users engaging with Metro on Christmas Day alone.”
She added: "Our digital strategy for 2013 focuses on finding ways to drive the scale of our online audience and frequency of consumption across mobile devices."
This Christmas is believed to have seen an explosion in tablet sales in the UK. Electrical retailer Dixons told Press Gazette that it ordered one million tablets this Christmas, four times the total of last year.
