Evening Standard TV critic Victor Lewis-Smith is to join The Guardian as its new restaurant critic, writes Dominic Ponsford.
He will write a weekly piece in Saturday’s Weekend magazine and replaces existing restaurant writer Matthew Fort, who remains food and drink editor. Fort will also provide a weekly recipe for Weekend.
Lewis-Smith previously spent five years as the restaurant critic for Harpers & Queen magazine.
Editor of Weekend magazine, Katharine Viner, said: “Victor LewisSmith is already well known for his vigour, wit and great writing; what is less well known is that he is also an expert on food.
“Matthew Fort, meanwhile, will apply his generous-spirited, relaxed and expert attitude to how people actually cook, as our new in-house recipe king.”
