Travel Trade Gazette has marked its 50th anniversary by producing a special cover designed using the same type as the 1953 launch issue.
Fifty years ago it ran more news stories on the front than today, as well as advertisements.
But, according to editor John Welsh, the stories were “strangely familiar”.
Both the first and 50th anniversary issues carry front-page stories about the Association of British Travel Agents.
The lead, about the removal of the travel allowance, “takes you back to the days of ration books”, he said.
TTG has also produced a book looking back over 50 years of travel, written by freelance David Richardson and overseen by TTG news editor Samantha Mayling. Welsh said: “Not only does the travel industry have amazing heritage, TTG has an amazing past. I felt really humble dealing with the first front cover. It’s not every day an editor gets to celebrate a 50th anniversary.”
