40. British journalism’s greatest ever scoops: Matty Hull: Friendly fire (The Sun, Tom Newton Dunn, 2007)

The Sun uncovered sensational evidence that soldier Matty Hull was killed by US “friendly fire” in the middle of the inquest into his death.

The video tape from a US jet shows one pilot saying “God dammit” after mistakenly targeting a UK troop convoy and then another pilot said: “We’re in jail dude.”
