Tindle buys up Devon monthly title

By Press Gazette reporters

Tindle Newspapers has added to is 230 mainly weekly newspapers by purchasing the monthly title, View From Blackdown Hills.

The local newspaper publisher bought the title from View From Publishing, the group from which it acquired four other titles grouped around Axminster, in Devon, early this year.

Terms of this latest deal were not released.

Sir Ray Tindle, chairman of Tindle Newspapers, said: “This Blackdown Hills paper is an excellent editorial and advertising publication…we are proud to have it in our family. There is a big future for these community newspapers.”

In April, Tindle Newspapers said it had set aside £500,000 to back the development of its View From titles, which cover the border areas of Devon, Dorset and Somerset.

This latest move by Tindle newspapers comes as it is experimenting with the creation of digital versions for more than 100 of its weekly newspapers as part of a drive to create revenue from online subscriptions.
