The Times has joined the growing list of newspapers to have published apologies and/or paid damages to Jim Carr, the estranged father of comedian Jimmy.
Carr Senior (pictured left with Jimmy at his graduation) complained following an article by Andrew Billen which suggested he had sued newspapers for reporting his son's views on their relationship and sold his stories to the press.
The apology said: "We understand, and accept, that Jim Carr has only ever complained to newspapers which published false statements about him and that he only gave his story to the press to correct such false statements (the fees were given to charity)."
The Evening Standard and the Telegraph have both published apologies and paid damages to Carr after publishing interviews with his son.
