Thelondonpaper launches Google Maps listings mashup

News International freesheet thelondonpaper has launched an online London entertainment guide in the form of a Google Maps mashup and plans to bring the service to mobile phones.

The interactive site, thelondonknowledge, includes more than 3,000 reviews of bars and restraurants and 5,000 listings of clubs, theatres and cinemas, plotted on a Google Map.

Users of the site can search by street, venue or postcode and can get travel information for the route between venues via Transport for London’s journey planner service. All the London underground stations and lines are marked on the maps.

Stefano Hatfield, editor of thelondonpaper, said: “The mapping tool will allow readers to find our content in a different way.

“Too often, a website’s content is hidden behind search engines but thelondonknowledge brings all that upfront and instantly shows you where it is. Perfect for a great night out in London.”

The paper said readers of the service will soon be able to add comments to the site, and that it could be made available on mobile platforms in the near future.

News International says thelondonpaper website generated 2.4 million page impressions in November, a 400 per cent year-on-year increase.
