One of Britain’s biggest secrets has been blown by national newspapers – The Stig’s identity is now public.
The Stig – a driver on BBC show Top Gear, who always keeps his face covered – is famed for his high-speed, top-notch driving.
Until now, his identity has been kept secret – despite British newspapers knowing his real name.
But the Daily Star Sunday has broken ranks to name him.
On page 15, under the headline ‘We unmask The Stig”, it pictured the driver without helmet and named him as Ben Collins, a 33-year-old from Bristol.
The story used quotes from a piece in Bristol’s Evening Post, which reported The Stig had ordered artwork from a dealer in the city – but didn’t name him.
The Daily Star Sunday’s story was followed up by today’s Times and Daily Telegraph.
