The Economist reaches 1 million fans on Facebook

The Economist has reached 1 million fans on Facebook, and has celebrated by asking readers to share photos of themselves reading the magazine.

Readers can post pictures of themselves or others reading The Economist, photos so far include a 13 month-old baby enjoying the magazine.

The most popular images will be featured on The Economist’s Facebook timeline, as voted for by readers. The timeline enables readers to see what journalists wrote on events ranging from Lincoln’s assassination to the invention of the electric light.

The Economist’s Facebook fans come from 180 countries, with the largest number living in the United States, followed by India, the UK, Pakistan and Canada. It claims to reach over 3.5 million people through all of its social media properties, with 2.1 million followers on Twitter and 400,000 users on Google Plus.
