The NME is standing by its story that Rolling Stone Keith Richards snorted his father’s ashes up his nose with a line of cocaine.
The music weekly made headlines around the world after getting Richards to admit that he had mixed the cremated remains of his dad, Bert, with cocaine while on a drugs bender.
Full marks to NME journalist Mark Beaumont… who must have felt that he had found the “hidden angle” in the ultimate NCTJ interview exam.
It’s certainly one to remember for interviewers everywhere: “And one last thing… what’s the most unusual thing you have ever snorted?”

Richards has since withdrawn his remarks, insisting that they were lost in translation. But after four decades of legendary hedonism, not to mention the incident where he fell out off a coconut tree and landed on his head last year, how would he know?
