Independent production company TenAlps is recruiting a handful journalists for a new ‘investigations and analysis’based website covering Northern Ireland.
Described as a new ‘current affairs platform”, which is expected to include video as well as text-based stories, The Detail is being launched out of the Below the Radar wing of Ten Alps.
Below the Radar was set up in February 2006 by TV producers Trevor Birney and Ruth O’Reilly. It specialises in current affairs and ‘hard-edged factual output”, and claims to have a full-time staff of ten producing films and online content for clients including the BBC, RTÉ, Channel 4 and Sky. It was bought by TenAlps early last year.
The Detail will cover all of Northern Ireland and is recruiting a senior journalist, a number of reporters and a researcher.
The Coalition Government plans to replace regional broadcast news on ITV with around 60 City-based TV stations at some point over the next few years.
The Detail could give TenAlps a foothold in being a part of any city-based TV solution for Northern Ireland.
According to the The Guardian, the new website is due to launch in January backed by grants of £750,000 from vast US-based grant-giving organisation Atalantic Philanthropies and from Northern Ireland Screen.
