Telegraph Media Group’s chief information officer, Paul Cheesbrough, is to join News International in the autumn.
Cheesbrough will replace TMG’s current CIO, Andrew Hickey, who is leaving later in the year to develop a portfolio of consultancy work.
His departure comes little over a month after Will Lewis, former TMG editor-in-chief and managing director of digital, left the company after a dispute over the independence of his new Euston Partners digital development wing.
Cheesbrough, who before joining TMG in 2007 was controller of digital media at the BBC, will report to Rebekah Brooks, chief executive of News International, in his new role.
Brooks said: “I am delighted to welcome someone of Paul’s calibre to the team.
‘He has exceptional experience in leading technology teams for content businesses and he joins us at a defining moment for our digital strategy.
‘His work with editorial and commercial groups will be enormously relevant to our plans to invest and to innovate for our customers.”
In his new role, Cheesbrough will be responsible News International’s technology platforms, providing and developing the digital infrastructure.
