Top of the Pops magazine is to cover mount a pop quiz DVD on its
next issue in what its publishers, BBC Worldwide, claim is a first in
the tough teen sector.
The move is the latest in a sector where
publications routinely put up to five gifts on its cover in a bid to
entice readers away from mySpace and mobiles.
The Ultimate Charts
Pop Quiz DVD, cover mounted to the July 2006 issue, has been produced
with the help of the Official Charts Company and features 300
interactive music questions.
BBC Worldwide produced the DVD in
conjunction with Expansive Media, a ditigal promotions company. Its
managing director, Martin Mason said: "Our latest project indicates
that forward thinking publishers like BBC Worldwide are willing to
engage with readers through new and innovative promotions instead of
taking the easy route to chasing sales through traditional low value
incentives.
"Yes, its new technology but it's really about
getting back to basics and investing in promotions that appeal to the
readers social behaviour."
