Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Sunday Times leads the way as nominations announced for Society of Editors Press Awards

By Press Gazette

The Sunday Times leads the nominations league table for this year's Society of Editors Press Awards with 21 finalists.

The Daily Mail has the next highest number of nominations with 18, followed by The Guardian on 17 and The Times and Daily Telegraph on 16. The Mail on Sunday is the highest-placed popular paper with 15 followed by the Daily Mirror on 13. The UK's top selling daily newspaper, The Sun, only has seven nominations this year.

The winners will be announced at the awards dinner on 1 April. The Press Awards are for UK national newspaper journalism and help fund the Society of Editors and the Journalists' Charity.

Chairman of judges Bob Satchwell, executive director of the Society of Editors, said: "Yet again the judges were astounded and delighted by the range and diversity of the output of national newspapers. Their combined qualities are unparalleled in the world.”
