The Scottish Sun raised the equivalent of £100,000 to welcome home members of the Black Watch regiment returning from Iraq for Christmas.
It launched the Sunta’s Sleigh campaign after learning that the Ministry of Defence was only paying for soldiers to return to their base in Wiltshire, but not transporting them to Scotland where most of them live.
After help from the Scottish business community, the paper has chartered a flight to Scotland, provided goody bags for all the troops and organised a welcome home party.
