Trainee journalist Stuart Amos has been named District Reporter of the Year and awarded £100 in a prize sponsored by the Leicester Mercury.
Amos, 27, who originally trained as a salesman, has completed an NCTJ at De Montford University in Leicester and has now secured a post on the Hemel Hempstead Gazette.
Head of journalism Ali Haynes said: “Stuart’s work throughout the year has been consistently excellent.”
From the same course, Sally Brooks, 25, won the Johnston Press-sponsored One to Watch award and £100 for the standard of her work across the board.
She has joined Nottinghamshire’s Melton Times as a trainee journalist.
