Daily Star journos missed out fielding a team for University Challenge: the Professionals after being stumped by clever-clogs questioning from the telly boffins.
Chief reporter Neil Chandler explains on his blog: “As soon as we’d sent off the entry form it was a done deal as far as I was concerned, and I started boasting to my pals about how I was going to be on the telly. This, it turns out, was premature. The telly people invited us in for a chat and a quiz.
“Unfortunately, they were less interested in whether we’d be good value and chatty on the box, and rather more into whether we actually knew anything about anything.
“So they gave us a mind-bending quiz ‒ harder I reckon than the questions you actually get on University Challenge ‒ and right then I knew we were dead in the water.”
Axegrinder reckons they should console themselves by entering Press Gazette’s knock-out darts competition next month instead.
