Last weekend’s Sport First
Weekly newspaper Sport First staked its claim to the phrase “Football First” in no uncertain terms this week following a dispute with The Non-League Paper over its use.
In its first edition after a two-week break for Christmas and the New Year, Sport First emblazoned the words “Football First” across its front page.
The Non-League Paper commandeered the term over Christmas when it took advantage of Sport First’s break to bring out a new supplement called Football First, which provided an FA Cup and Nationwide round-up.
Sport First said it owned the internet domain name Football First and had always given its football section within the paper that name.
Non-League Paper editor David Emery said he planned to continue publishing his Football First supplement indefinitely. He added: “There is no trademark for the name Football First.”
