Spine shudder

While your front page announced thousands of BBC job losses last
week, your report on p9 said the BBC planned to set up 60 local
television services. I trust this sent a shudder down the spines of
local editors, already suffering from the impact of BBC local radio and
BBC websites.

While it would be nice to have a licence fee to
expand services, there is a commercial alternative. Newspapers are
perfectly capable of delivering their own video services. Why should
the BBC grab more of the local market?
