Spectator ordered to print correction over 'significantly misleading' story about ENO in opera column

The Spectator has been censured by press regulator IPSO over a  “significantly misleading” article  about the English National Opera.

The article wrongly stated that the ENO’s “unionised” orchestra and chorus were behind a decision not to host the Philip Glass Ensemble for a production of Einstein on the Beach.

The magazine agreed to an online correction but refused to publish the correction in print.

Upholding the complaint, IPSO ordered the Spectator to publish the full correction in the print edition beneath the opera column (where the mistake was made).
