Sir Ray Tindle to pay out more than £80,000 in bonuses

By Press Gazette reporters

Tindle Newspapers is to pay out in excess of £80,000 after agreeing to award its entire staff a bonus of between £100 and £300 based on the performance of their newspaper this financial year.

Sir Ray Tindle, chairman of Tindle Newspapers, told a special meeting of the board and general managers of the company yesterday that the new bonus scheme would be payable this month to staff on his 220 weekly titles.

In addition to a flat £100 ‘group bonus’for each of the near 900 employees, the publisher said a ‘local bonus’of up to £200 would be paid based on how the revenue each paper generated in the first half of this year compared with the income for the same paper in the equivalent period last year.

Like many other regional and national newspaper publishers, Tindle imposed a pay freeze on its staff earlier this year which is set to continue into 2010.
