Sir Ray Tindle has agreed to buy the 130-year-old The Forester newspaper from Gloucestershire Media Group, a subsidiary of Northcliffe Media.
The paid-for weekly, which is based in the Forest of Dean, will transfer to the control of Tindle Newspapers, adding to its portfolio of more than 200 mainly weekly titles.
Nine staff working at the Forester offices in Cinderford will transfer to the new owners.
Negotiations for Tindle on the sale were led by Brian Doel, the group’s managing director, who will be joining the board of a new subsidiary company, Forester Newspapers Limited.
The purchase follows Tindle launching three new weekly titles in London earlier in the month which will be distributed free door-to-door to nearly 90,000 homes.
According to the most recent figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, The Forester had an average weekly circulation of 9,791 during the first half of the year –a year-o-year drop of 2.4 per cent.
