Simpson axed in cost-cutting drive

By Press Gazette

One of Scotland’s best-known TV news presenters Angus Simpson of Scottish Television’s flagship programme Scotland Today – has been axed in a drive to cut costs.

Simpson, Scotland Today’s longest-serving presenter with 17 years service, said he was “shell-shocked” that his freelance contract was not being renewed.

He said: “I was desperately disappointed to hear the news. I have been assured that I am going purely for financial reasons and I am not saying that I think another member of the team should have gone instead of me.”
