Three finalists have been announced for the Media and Arts Award in the upcoming Lloyds TSB Asian Jewel Awards (Central Region).
Radio and television presenter Adil Ray, Sikh Times editor Gurjeet Kaur Baines and BBC News cameraman Bhasker Solanki have been shortlisted for the prize.
Ray is a presenter on the BBC Asian Network and is also presents for BBC Two’s Network East late show, Desi DNA. Before moving to Galaxy 105 he became the first British Asian to present a radio show for Choice FM from 1995-1998.
Baines, a former Business Woman of the Year winner, launched The Sikh Times, Britain’s first bilingual English and Punjabi newspaper.
Solanki, a BBC News cameraman for the past 20 years, has worked in more than 70 countries. He has covered many of the most significant international news events of recent years, including the massacres in Tiananmen Square and the wars in Iraq and Yugoslavia.
The Lloyds TSB Asian Jewel Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the achievement of Asian individuals across the country. The winner will be announced on Monday, 26 April.
