Sheffield Telegraph editor Alan Powell has been named as the new
editor of Johnston Press-owned evening paper the Sheffield Star.

He takes over from Peter Charlton who moved over to Johnston’s flagship morning title the Yorkshire Post.

Before launching the Sheffield Telegraph as a
paid-for weekly tabloid in 1989, Powell was deputy editor of The Star
and was in charge of the paper during its award-winning coverage of the
Hillsborough disaster.
