The BBC has been inundated with calls from Scottish viewers who were upset by the “anti-Scottish” commentary during the Six Nations rugby game between Scotland and England last weekend.
Viewers were angry about the repeated reference to the England team as “we”, despite TV coverage being broadcast throughout the UK.
The commentary team – led by former Welsh international Eddie Butler and former England hooker Brian Moore – was accused of having unprofessional opinions. There was further criticism on the Scottish Rugby Union’s official website. One post said: “It was so bad I had to turn down the sound. I wish the BBC would realise that they are broadcasting to the whole of the UK.”
A BBC Scotland spokesman said: “I can confirm that we have received a substantial number of calls about the commentary. We will be looking into the complaints to see if they have foundation.”
