Savill leaves BBC for French home

By Press Gazette

Julie Savill, launch editor of BBC Good Homes magazine, has quit to concentrate on renovating her house in France.

Savill launched the title in 1998 and has worked on the concept since it was at research stage. She has worked for BBC Worldwide for nine years, having previously been homes and deputy editor of BBC Homes & Antiques. She has also worked on Woman, Me and Best.

“I am going off to do exactly what I have been telling my readers to do,” she told Press Gazette. “I have a house in the Dordogne which I am going to do up and I’m going to freelance which is something I have never done before as I’ve always been in staff jobs. I just want to do something a bit different.”

Savill, who hopes to continue writing about interiors, said she had mixed feelings about her departure. “BBC Worldwide is a fantastic company and if I wasn’t moving to France, I wouldn’t be leaving.”
