Royal Wedding front pages and souvenir editions from around the world

An estimated 18m Brits tuned in on Saturday to watch the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with national newspapers on both Sunday and Monday filling their front pages and souvenir editions with photos of the happy couple.

The i put out a special Sunday edition for the first time to cover the nuptials to “mark the occasion for those of you who like a memento”.

But the newlyweds were also front page news around the world.

Coming just a day after another school shooting in the US, as ten people were shot dead at Santa Fe High School in Texas on Friday, New York’s Daily News covered both leading stories with a powerful headline.

“They do royal weddings. We do schoolkids’ funerals,” the paper said, as it covered the Texas school attack on pages 4-5 and the royal wedding on pages 6-8.

The Washington Post and New York Times also gave front page billing to both major stories.

Meanwhile the New York Post wrote: “American beauty storms UK, captures hearts” under the headline “Palace Coo” for its front page and included seven pages of wedding coverage inside.

Across the channel, Le Parisien Dimanche ran with the headline: “Royal et revolutionnaire” while Montpellier-based daily Midi Libre featured an image of Meghan and Harry alongside an exclusive on the closure of Carrefour supermarkets.

The Spanish press coverage included front page images of the royal couple on El Mundo and La Vanguardia although they led with stories on Catalan president Quim Torra.

German papers Der Tagesspiegel and Frankfurter Allgemeine featured the royal wedding on their front pages under the headlines “The power of love” and “Yes they can!” respectively.

In Australia the Sunday Telegraph, the Sunday Times and the Courier Mail all released souvenir issues, with the latter title saying: “Buckle up: Harry & Meghan are taking the royals on a wild ride.”

The New Zealand Herald on Sunday did the same, with a souvenir edition headlined: “Jewel in the Crown.”

UAE English language paper Gulf News and Brazilian paper O Globo both had an image of the royal couple being driven by horse and carriage on their front pages while The South African Sunday Times featured a picture of them exiting St George’s Chapel after the wedding service.
