A dangerous armed robber is safely behind bars thanks to the brave actions of freelance court reporter John Davies.
The Bradford Telegraph and Argus reports that Karl Jones, 37, of King's Drive in Shipley, was sentenced to 12 years yesterday for six armed robberies.
He reportedly shouted out "I can't do 12 years" before jumping out of the dock and runnning for the exit.
Davies, 49, who works full-time as a freelance journalist covering Bradford Crown Court, stopped the criminal from leaving the court by rugby tackling him to the floor and was instantly commended by the judge and given a £250 reward.
He told Press Gazette: "It was nothing really. It was a situation where the bloke got in a bit of a panic and tried to leg it out of the building when his sentence was announced. I just managed to grab him and stop him before the security guards got to him."
