LBC’s swapping of channel frequencies for its London-based rolling news and speech radio stations caused more confusion than was first thought, after it was revealed audience listening figures for one station were attributed to the other for the last measured quarter.
After Chrysalis acquired and relaunched News Direct as LBC News 1152 AM in January, with the speech station moving to 97.3 FM, Rajar gave listening figures for the quarter ending 31 March as 447,000 and 441,000 respectively. But it has emerged that, due to “an administration error” by Rajar’s contractor, Ipsos-RSL, the figures were transposed.
This means LBC 97.3 FM increased its weekly reach by nearly 19 per cent – rather than 17 per cent as previously thought – from 377,000 in the corresponding period last year. LBC News 1152, on the other hand, had a bigger fall than the 7.8 per cent recorded – the revised drop was 8.5 per cent from the previous 482,000.
