Radio Five Live picks up seven Sony award nominations

Radio Five Live looks set to have another good year at the Sony Radio
Academy Awards with seven nominations in the news and speech categories
and 12 nominations overall.
The station’s Worriker Programme and Weekend
Business have both been nominated for news programme of the year and
‘The Tsunami’ and ‘Umlazi’ have been nominated for the news story award.
Simon Mayo is up for speech broadcaster of the year for his afternoon topical chat show.
The station was successful in last year’s awards, winning 7 Sonys.
The nominations0are for 32 awards divided into four categories,
music and entertainment, news and speech, production and station.
Radio Four has 7 nominations for this year’s awards including File on 4
in the news programme of the year category and The Today Programme in
the news output award. Eddie Mair has been nominated as news journalist
of the year.
The Today Programme’s The Impact Of The Madrid Bombs has
been nominated for the news story award.
The awards ceremony, the 23rd Sony Radio Academy Awards will this year
take place on Monday 9 May at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
