Finnish journalist Kajsa Törnroth has been appointed director of press freedom programmes for the World Association of Newspapers.
Törnroth, who joined WAN in February 2001 as co-ordinator and editor of the African Press Network for the 21st Century, will co-ordinate the association’s press freedom activities, including campaigns and lobbying, World Press Freedom Day activities, Media in Danger conferences, and fundraising and development.
Under her leadership, APN, which provides an exchange of media management and information among the African press, grew to a current 400 subscribing African newspapers.
