Police officers investigating allegations of phone hacking at the News of the World have asked The Guardian and Channel 4 to provide new evidence they may have gathered.
Detectives from Scotland Yard wrote to the two organisations following last week’s Dispatches documentary which featured anonymous claims that Andy Coulson listened to intercepted messages during his time as the editor of the News of the World.
Coulson has always denied having any knowledge of the practice.
The Guardian yesterday published online the reply from editor Alan Rusbridger in which he told the investigating officer Detective Superintendent Dean Haydon that much of the evidence was already in the police’s possession.
Detectives have not yet interviewed executives or journalists on the NOTW, the Independent said today.
