The Perth Herald and Post free weekly newspaper is facing closure after just 18 months with the jobs of two journalists and eight sales staff at stake.
The weekly is part of Scotsman Publications Limited, which Johnston Press bought in a £160m deal last year.
Consultations have begun on the closure and Scotsman Publications managing director Michael Johnston said that the future of the paper was being considered, but that no decision had yet been taken.
None of the group's other titles, which include the Herald and Post Edinburgh, West Lothian and Fife, would be affected.
If the closure goes ahead, the last issue of the Perth weekly would be published on 29 June. It was launched 18 months ago and has a distribution of 22,000 copies.
