Journalists and management at Newsquest Bolton, publisher of the Bolton Evening News and Bury Times Group, have reached an agreement over a two-year pay deal.
Under the agreement, journalists and photographers will receive a 2 per cent increase on basic pay.
The minimum banding levels will be increased by 3 per cent and most senior journalists and photographers with more than two years’ service will receive a one-off payment under a performance/long service scheme.
The agreement also settles the 2004 pay review which will be at the rate of underlying inflation. The NUJ had been seeking a seven per cent rise for its members at Newsquest Bolton who were on strike for five weeks before returning to work a fortnight ago.
At Newsquest Bradford, the striking NUJ members returned to work on Wednesday. According to the union the return was because the chapel needs another workplace ballot to keep their action within the law. If another ballot is held it will take several weeks before any further strike action could take place.
