Staff at Lancashire weekly the Accrington Observer held a champagne celebration after sales of one issue in January broke through the 14,000 mark for the first time in 15 years.
Circulation has been rising steadily in the past few years, but progress has accelerated following a redesign of the paper.
The Observer’s ABC figure for January to June 2002 was 13,238.
The Observer is part of Greater Manchester Weekly Newspapers, whose group editor, Richard Catlow, provided the bubbly.
Editor Mervyn Kay said: “We’re through a psychological barrier and now we’re aiming at sales of over 14,000 every week.”
