The National Union of Journalists has suspended the 24-hour strike that had been set for next Tuesday, 18 April at ITV.
Journalists in ITV regional newsrooms had voted to strike in protest against working conditions brought about by the introduction of new desktop editing technology. The journalists claim the new technology has led to increases in editorial responsibility, pressure and less manageable working conditions without an financial reward.
The arbitration service ACAS has invited ITV and the NUJ to talks over the dispute, but no date has yet been agreed.
NUJ national broadcasting organiser Paul McLaughlin (pictured) said: “We welcome this positive movement. We are now committed to a dialogue and we look forward to discussions in the near future."
