One week after the murder of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya – the National Union of Journalists has issued three demands to the Russian Government.
The NUJ held a protest outside the Russian embassy in London on Saturday, a week after Politkovskaya was shot dead outside her home.
The murdered journalist had been fiercely critical of Russian activities in Chechnya and is, according to the NUJ, the 13th Russian journalist murdered in a “contract style killing” since Vladimir Putin came to power.
NUJ general secretary Jeremy Dear issued the following demands to the Russian ambassodor, calling for: "a thorough independent investigation into Anna Politkovskaya's death and those of other slain colleagues, and the prosecution of people alleged to be responsible; open and unhindered access by all journalists, Russian and international, to report the Chechen conflict" and "an end to the harassment and killing of journalists."
