NoW exclusive sparks inquiry

By Press Gazette

By Dominic Ponsford

The Premier League launched an inquiry this week following the News
of the World’s revelation that Chelsea had made an secret approach to
Arsenal star Ashley Cole.

The NoW secured its exclusive after getting a sworn affadavit from a “businessman”

who
contacted the Sunday newspaper after seeing Cole, Chelsea manager Jose
Mourinho and chief executive Peter Kenyon in a London hotel
together. The NoW handed a dossier of evidence to the Premier League on
Saturday and by lunchtime on Sunday league bosses announced a formal
inquiry.

NoW head of sport Mike Dunn said: “We always believed in
the truth of our story and for the Premiere League to take this unusual
action shows how strong our evidence was.

“Chelsea have tried
playing around with all kinds of words but the one thing they haven’t
done is deny that anything took place.”
