News of the World legal manager Tom Crone has left News International.
Press Gazette understands that Crone has been on holiday and returned today. He entered into the 90-day consultation period as well as the rest of the News of the World staff.
Crone oversaw pre and post publication legal matters for the News of the World and was among those from the paper who gave evidence to the Commons media select committee in 2009.
News International announced yesterday that it would seek to find jobs elsewhere in the company for the ‘vast majority’of those who worked for the News of the World.
The last edition of the New of the World was published on Sunday after parent company News Corporation took the decision to close the 168-year-old paper in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal.
News International has yet to make any announcement on whether it will be replaced with a Sunday edition of The Sun.
