Newsquest in talks over London move

By Press Gazette

The NUJ is in “constructive” discussions with Newsquest over plans to move the management of some of its magazines from Glasgow to London.

Newsquest inherited the magazines when it bought The Herald titles from Scottish Media Group for £216m this year. It is believed up to 16 jobs will be lost in Glasgow, which publishes titles including The Scottish Farmer, Boxing News and International Piano.

There was speculation that Newsquest would sell the 11 niche titles in its magazine division for up to £15m.

However, it said it would not sell the profitable Scottish Farmer on its own.

The magazines make an annual profit of about £1m and their book value is £15m.

Regional managing director Tim Blott said: “The transfer of the management of the Glasgow-based titles to our London magazines division makes sense and in the long term will benefit all concerned.”
