Photographic agency Newscast has taken on a second young staff photographer as part of its innovative Academy of Excellence.
Jason
Alden, 24, who graduates in press photography from Norton College
Sheffield’s NCTJ course this month, has secured a year’s on-the-job
training with Newscast.
Alden
said: “This is a brilliant opportunity to gain unbeatable real life
experience. I’m looking forward to proving myself.”
The training link with Newscast was launched last year to promote new talent – and it is the first of its kind in the industry.
Norton
College course leader Paul Delmar chooses the best students, who are
judged by former Guardian picture editor Eamonn McCabe, now Newscast’s
creative director, and Stewart Goldstein, managing director and founder.
Last year David Parry, 22, was the first recruit to be picked.
Goldstein said: “We believe in nurturing talented photographers and helping them to get a foot on the ladder.
“David
has gone beyond what he thought was possible in such a short space of
time. We think Jason will follow in his footsteps.”
Delmar added: “This is the only scheme of its kind and our graduates benefit enormously from its success.”
