The News of the World will launch a men’s magazine next month as a companion title to its existing weekend glossy, Fabulous.
The as-yet-unnamed magazine will be edited by Mark Hayman, currently creative director of Fabulous magazine.
Press Gazette reported last month that Joely Carey had been appointed to replace Hayman; she will now become editorial director of both magazines.
The new title will be a 56-page supplement that will launch on 6 March backed by a TV and radio marketing campaign. It expected that the title will be monthly, but that has yet to be finalised.
Editorial will focus on men’s fashion, investigative features mixed with features on gadgets, fitness, food, music and film.
Hayman said: “After three years as creative director of Fabulous magazine, I can’t wait to bring the same success to the men’s sector…
“There is nothing quite like it in the men’s magazine market currently, and certainly nothing with the reach of News of the World.”
The News of the World brought in big guns from the world of magazines to head up Fabulous when in launched in February, 2008.
At the time it was radical departure from the old Sunday magazine as it made a hefty bid to attract the bigger name advertisers usually associated with glossy titles.
Against a men’s magazine sector which has withered in recent years, News International will be hoping its new title can have a similar effect to Fabulous and drag over up-market brands with the allure of appealing to nearly three million readers every week.
