New Archant press

By Press Gazette

Archant has announced plans to invest £12.5m in printing facilities.

Two printing towers are to be installed at the company’s Thorpe Print Centre near Norwich. The company says the facilities, which are due to be completed by December 2004, will enable its titles to have bigger supplements, with more colour.

About 70 publications are printed at the plant, including the Eastern Daily Press, the Hampstead & Highgate Express and the South Essex Recorder.

Archant chief executive John Fry said: “This is a major investment in our core newspaper publishing business and will enable us to produce larger papers with more supplements and offer greater colour availability.”

Archant Print managing director Peter Dodds said: “About 3.5 million papers and supplements are printed each week and with our Archant colleagues planning to launch many more new titles and editions, a new pressline is much needed.”
