Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

National ABCs: Daily Star sees biggest drop

By Press Gazette

The Daily Star saw the biggest drop in circulation in September for a national daily falling 21.2 per cent year on year to 681,268, according to the latest ABC fgures.

The Guardian was the second worst-performing daily with a 16.4 per cent year on year drop to 232,566 (still feeling the effects of a decision to axe foreign sales), followed by The Herald, down 12.3 per cent to 46,797.

The Daily Mirror was one of the best-performing dailies, down 5.7 per cent to 1,143,778. The Independent was down 3.2 per cent but this figure includes bulk copies.

The demise of the News of the World in July continues to benefit the Daily Star Sunday (up 89.3 to 703,319), the Sunday Mirror (up 63.9 per cent to 1,845,683) and The People (up 57.6 per cent to 839,182).

The Mail on Sunday remains the best-selling Sunday paper and was up 0.5 per cent to 1,979,701
