Both James and Rupert Murdoch told MPs today that there are ‘no immediate plans’to launch a Sunday edition of The Sun following the closure of the News of the World.
News Corp Europe and Asia chief executive James Murdoch told the Commons Culture Media and Sport Select Committee: ‘There’s no decision on that.”
News Corp closed the UK’s best selling newspaper, the News of the World, just over a week ago in response to the phone-hacking scandal.
Responding to the question of whether a Sunday edition of the Sun would be launched, Murdoch junior said: ‘We’ve looked at all those options..that’s not the company’s priority now.”
He said: ‘This is not the time to be worrying about that.”
Asked whether the decision to close the News of the World was a commercial one, Rupert Murdoch said: ‘Far from it.”
