Press Gazette’s two new Camelot-sponsored trainee journalists, Patrick Smith and Rachael Gallagher, this week met Camelot chief executive Dianne Thompson.
They started work at Press Gazette this month after seeing off competition from eight other contestants in the four-week Press Cadets contest. Week by week entrants were eliminated after tasks which ranged from carrying a sandwich board in central London for Time Out to presenting a video news bulletin at the Press Association.
Smith, 23, comes from Ashton-under-Lyne, and gained an MA in journalism from Trinity and All Saints College after studying history at Leeds University.
Gallagher, also 23, comes from Hereford and studied for a BA in journalism with psychology at City University. Before joining Press Gazette she was working in the Press Association weather centre as an admin assistant.
Press Gazette editor Dominic Ponsford said: ‘Once again the competition has proved a superb way to recruit two talented and determined trainees.”
