A former Coronation Street storyline planner is to edit a one-off Christmas special of the soap’s first magazine.
Lisa Marks, former editor of the Daily Mirror’s TV magazine The Look, will edit the 100-page glossy, published by John Brown Citrus Publishing in conjunction with Granada. The title will cost £4.95 and includes a covermounted DVD featuring excerpts from past Christmas shows.
“It’s about time that Coronation Street had a really excellent magazine, because it has such a loyal audience,” said JBCP chief executive Andrew Hirsch, adding that further editions may be published in the future.
“We’ll see how the sales go. If they’re moderate, we’ll call it a one-off, but both we and Granada hope it will be more than that. It’s had a fantastic advertising interest so far, which is always a good sign when you’re launching a magazine.”
The magazine’s six-strong editorial team will assemble behind-the-scenes exclusives as well as competitions offering bizarre prizes such as one of Ken Barlow’s jumpers.
“Coronation Street has been in our homes for 43 years and is an institution that offers a great publishing opportunity, “said Hirsch.
